A few roosters against an $800,000 deal

This past Friday it was formally delivered the notification by one of my clients, that they will vacate their apartment in two months. They are actually living in one of the most luxurious apartment buildings of Escazu.

I must share with you my deep concern for the reasons that are forcing this decision, because the clients arrived at the building with a great expectation of finding peace and tranquility due to their health condition, and this was explained to the owners of the apartment on several occasions, even before signing the contract. The fact that the building is secluded and away from traffic and high density construction, was the main attraction for choosing this building in comparison with the other options they had at the time.

The months in the building for my clients became a daily torture, mainly due to some famous roosters owned by the next store neighbor’s gardener, although there were other issues related to the building and its maintenance that also weighed in making the decision, and that were pointed out in several occasions to those responsible, one of them is the last portion of the access road, in such poor condition that it is a premonition that something is going wrong in that building.

My clients did everything in their power to solve the problems, even to the extent or purchasing the roosters from the neighboring property, but the gardener just went and bought chickens to replace those sold!

It seems absurd that the owners of this distinguished building consent to this type of situation, because to some extent undermines the health of its inhabitants, and needless to say, the neighborhood is not a village, where this type of situation would appear normal.

My clients arrived at the building with great expectation that this would be their permanent place of residence. Their intention of renting was just to feel the atmosphere of the building before proceeding to buy the apartment. They even paid several months rental in advance. Unfortunately, the eventual purchase of the apartment will not be carried out. All for a few roosters and the lack of will to solve a problem that is largely affecting all residents of the building.

My clients did not find the tranquility they were looking for, but will leave the building sicker than when they came and with an enormous sense of frustration at not being able to realize the process that led them to live there.

In my 20 years of working with high-end properties I never had a similar experience. I must say that I can not recommend the building to any of my clients, because they will probably go through a similar experience. A few roosters and the unwillingness to solve the problems have become so expensive for the developer and have caused so much trouble to my clients. I also found out that other families living there are experiencing the same unhappiness.

In a few words, the power of a few roosters and a gardener, made it impossible to complete a transaction of about $800,000.

In the world of real estate, this is one of the most amazing experiences I have been part of.
